3 days  desert tour from Marrakech to Sahara Desert

Itinerary

 

Below is a description of a three-day trip from Marrakech including an overnight stay in Merzouga, more specifically the Erg Chebbi dunes of this region.

Day 1: Marrakech to Boumalen Dades

​

An early start is highly recommended from your hotel accommodation in Marrakech. Most part of the travels involves crossing the High Atlas Mountains, passing many charming Berber villages on route and ascending to the highest peak of Tickha where there is plenty of opportunity to enjoy the stunning and picturesque views of the High Atlas Mountains range.

Travelling east, the journey crosses the village of Telouet will take the home of the historical home of the Glaoui family (Ksar El Glaoui), described as one of the most powerful and aspiring Berber tribal leaders. Following this, the visit continues to the Kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou. A famous 16th Century fortress which is classified to date by UNESCO in order to preserve and protect this famous site.  In past years, its fame was built on a film making of Lawrence of Arabia and Jesus of Nazareth and more recently the sought out location for Gladiator, Kingdom of heaven and Prince of Persia, Game of thrones..Ect. Lunch will be served in Ouarzazate city, followed by a sightseeing tour of Kasbah Taourirt. After this, the drive takes you pass Skoura city, through the valley of Roses towards Kalaat Megouna.  The excursion ends on the first day crossing Dades Gorge, the high cliffs of limestone which have eroded throughout time resulting in peculiar structures of rock formation.  Entering Boumalne du Dades, will take you to your hotel stay.

Day 2 :  Boumalen Dades to Merzouga desert.

Next day, will give you a greater opportunity to discover this area as you drive to Todra Gorge after breakfast.  The breath-taking views of the Gorge views and river attract hikers to the area. Additionally, the visit gives you a chance to visit nomadic families who resides in this region as the journey continues to Tinjdad. In order to reach the sand dunes on the 2nd day, the drive crosses the desert towns of Erfoud and Risani. As the journey ends on the edge of the Merzouga desert, there is an opportunity to enjoy traditional mint tea as prepare for your two-hour camel trek.The trek will take you to your desert camp where you will stay overnight, enjoying dinner, camp fires, local desert’s music under the bright stars , free time and overnight stay in your private luxry tent the camp in desert : Tiziri Camp or similar ;

Day 3 :  Merzouga desert to Marrakech.

​

An early wak up for sunrise, after breakfast camel ride back to the car. The journey takes an alternative route to enjoy more sightseeing along Alnif to Tazarin, Draa valley, Ait Souen mountains towards Ouarzazate. The final stage of your trip will take back to Marrakech.drop off at your accommodations.
